How to Choose a Sports Bra: Fit, Support and Comfort Tips
Share
The right sports bra should feel secure without feeling restrictive. Whether you are heading to yoga, a gym session or a walk, a few simple checks make it easier to find a good fit.
Start with the band
The band does most of the work. It should sit flat and snug around your ribcage, without riding up your back or leaving deep marks. You should be able to take a full breath and move your arms freely.
Check the straps and cups
- Straps should stay in place without digging into your shoulders.
- The fabric should lie smooth against your skin, with no gaping at the top and no spilling over the edges.
- Raise your arms overhead. If the bra rides up or shifts, try a different size or style.
Match the style to your activity
Lower-impact activities such as yoga, Pilates and walking often feel comfortable in a supportive, stretchy style. For more movement, look for a snugger fit and a wider band. Everyone is different, so choose what feels secure for the way you move.
Try the bounce test
Jump a few times or do a couple of quick lunges. If you feel too much movement or discomfort, size down in the band or try a different cut.
